It’s no news that the way we use our eyes has changed drastically in the last decade. Most of us are constantly looking at some sort of screen or another, whether it’s a computer, tablet, or smartphone. We spend so much time staring at these devices that we’ve created a new syndrome in “Computer Vision Syndrome” and now we’re realizing that it goes beyond just dry eyes from not blinking frequently enough.
These devices along with compact fluorescent and LED lighting all emit levels of high-energy visible (HEV) light, or “bad blue light.” Studies have shown this “visual noise” to induce fatigue while also robbing you of the melatonin levels to allow you to sleep well, cause headaches and blurred vision, and even possibly contribute to eye diseases like macular degeneration long-term.
The scientists at Hoya have recently released an anti-reflective treatment called Recharge that contains an element that blocks the bad blue light while still allowing the good light waves that we need to pass through. We suggest it to our customers and the feedback has been only positive. One customer, a writer who regularly has trouble sleeping, was so impressed he emailed to let us know that after only having his new Recharge lenses a few weeks they seemed to be helping with his sleep and that he would certainly endorse the lens treatment.
Whether you’re already experiencing symptoms or just want to take preventative measures, we’d love for you to stop in and talk to us about this new option in anti-reflective treatments.
